The fierce character of Arsene Wenger’s latest signing has been lauded by club legend Thierry Henry.

Arsenal confirmed the signing of Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach at the end of last month to begin what is expected to be a busy summer at the club.

Following the departure of Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta, Arsene Wenger has been required to dip into the transfer market to add more steel to his holding midfield options.

And according to former Gunner Thierry Henry, Xhaka – who contested against his brother in Saturday’s Euro 2016 clash between Switzerland and Albania – will bring the competitive edge needed at Arsenal.

“He didn’t care it was his brother. He [Xhaka] doesn’t care who he is playing, he does what he has to do to win the game” he said.

Speaking on Xhaka, who was the captain of Monchengladbach despite being only 23 years old, another former Arsenal star Johan Djourou praised the midfielder’s attributes.

“He’s a top-class player with lots of qualities. He brings calmness, ability to play long passes, precision and aggression”
