‘He is not an Arsenal standard player!’ – Twitter gives mixed reaction to Gunner’s display
Despite keeping a clean-sheet in back-to-back Premier League starts, not everyone was impressed by Gabriel on Sunday.
Per Mertesacker has been preferred to the Brazilian for much of this season but the brief suspension of Arsenal’s vice-captain following his red card against Chelsea has seen Gabriel feature on regular basis.
Arsenal’s statistics from games in which Gabriel has been involved remain impressive, but the 25-year-old was given a run for his money on Sunday as Bournemotuth carved out a couple of dangerous opportunities.
Ahead of next week’s showdown with Leicester City, some Arsenal fans are feeling encouraged by the former Villareal defender’s partnership with Laurent Koscielny while others are now calling for Mertesacker to return.
Here were the mixed reviews…
We seem to defend better with Gabriel on the pitch even though I still think he looks unconvincing. Any reason for this?

Gabriel makes mistakes but has pace to recover, Mertesacker doesn't

No way Gabriel starts on Sunday. Its written that Arsenal must be handicapped in some fashion.

Gabriel and Koscielny is the way forward without a doubt but Gabriel will need to improve when in possession and learn English.ππ»ππ»ππ»ππ

We have three animals in defense:
Laurent the Shark Koscielny
Gabriel the Shark Paulista
And Per the Giraffe Mertesacker— . (@BieIik) February 7, 2016
