‘He should start against Liverpool!’ – Fans ask Wenger to play Arsenal star after huge fitness boost on Friday
Danny Welbeck has received some rave reviews for his efforts for the club’s youth team on Friday as they dismantled Chelsea.
The 26-year-old missed nearly a year of football after suffering a severe knee ligament injury in the visit to Manchester City at the end of last season.
Welbeck announced his return from injury with another goal-scoring display as he scored twice in the 5-0 victory over Southampton in the FA Cup.
And for the first time since making his comeback, the former Manchester United star managed to feature for the entire 90 minutes of a game on Friday as the Gunners’ Under-23 side thrashed Chelsea’s boys 4-1 at London Colney.
To add the cherry on top of the cake, Welbeck was the man who stepped up to score Arsenal’s fourth goal from the penalty spot.
And according to several fans, the striker has done enough to prove he deserves a place in the team which will face Liverpool in two weeks.
Here were the tweets…
I think we should start Welbeck against Liverpool

Welbeck has gradually been returning to full fitness, hopefully he's in the squad for the LFC game, his energy would be a huge boost #AFC

Welbeck: Great dribbling and runs but lacked service. This game was more of a fitness boost but great to see him get 90 mins and a solid pen

Welbeck scored a pen and played the full 90 mins today in the U23's 4-1 win v Chelsea U23's. Surely will play a big part at Liverpool. #afc

I'd never seen Welbeck take a penalty before. Smashed the hell out of it.
