Former Gunner Robert Pires has heaped praise on new signing Alexandre Lacazette ahead of the upcoming season.

The 26-year-old moved to the Emirates stadium just over two weeks ago from Olympique Lyonnais after a year-long pursuit of his signature by Arsene Wenger.

Lacazette managed to score on his debut for the Gunners in the 2-0 victory over Australian side Sydney FC.

And after watching him feature in two more matches in Arsenal’s pre-season tour, Pires is expecting the striker to succeed in the Premier League even though that might take some time.

“I think he’ll be a success. But maybe he will need time to adapt,” Pires said

“He is a good striker who has scored a lot of goals with Lyon. Of course it will be very difficult in the beginning because when you play in France and move to England it is not the same, it is very aggressive.

“Maybe he will need time for the adaptation but everyone around him is very important, especially the French connection.

“But to make the adaption, to find the rhythm and the tempo, for me it took six or seven months. It was very tough, for me it was the aggression and intensity.”
