Thierry Henry has suggested that Theo Walcott’s progress at Arsenal since moving from Southampton in January 2006 has been much slower than he expected.
The Englishman has now spent a decade in north London after being signed as a promising talent ahead of the club’s move to the Emirates stadium.
Walcott, whose career at Arsenal has been troubled by injuries, enjoyed his best season in the 2012/13 campaign which saw him finish with a tally of 21 goals immediately after the departure of Robin van Persie.
The 27-year-old has shown signs of rediscovering his best form this season after scoring five goals so far.
However, former Gunner Thierry Henry insists Walcott’s recent performances should have come much earlier than that.
“Theo has lost time. It’s about time [he improved]. He needs to play well and have a complete season at this level.” Henry said on Sky Sports
“Yes, he has been brilliant recently. But it is about time. I’ve wanted to see Theo Walcott doing that for a very long time… I was expecting that a long time ago.”
