‘He’s a fraud, never start him!’ – Twitter attacks Arsenal star after Newcastle show
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is gradually becoming a much-maligned figure amongst the Arsenal faithful.
Despite promising many about his potential with a couple of memorable moments, the ex-Southampton youngster’s form has been troubled by injuries so far in his Arsenal career.
Indeed, after Saturday’s performance which saw him substituted in the 68th minute, certain fans were suggesting that the 22-year-old now lacks the quality to make it at the Emirates stadium.
Here were the reactions…
I think Oxlade Chamberlain is too busy thinking about his appearance on the next BT Sport ad than actual football.

Oxlade Chamberlain has been so poor all season. Went so far backwards. If the right offer came in for him, arsenal should take it.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is in his 5th season at Arsenal and is yet to score over 2 Premier League goals in a season. ?

Also hope Oxlade-Chamberlain never starts another PL game in the near future. How can someone consistently be so brainless ?

Joel Campbell being a more useful squad player than Oxlade Chamberlain is a plot twist I didn't see coming.

Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain has just 1 goal and 1 assist in his last 2,219 premier league minutes. That's one every 1,109.5 minutes. #Pathetic

Alex Oxlade Chamberlain is a fraud. 6 goals in 96 matches. Another overrated English lad

Oxlade Chamberlain needs so much more work than we all thought, he's gonna be a good player but has a long way to go

Chamberlain has never been and will never be a good player, Just the English press talking about people so much and they have nothing to offer, Campbell is the way to go. Chamberlain have refused to learn
Arsenal fans, always in a hurry to write-off their players!. Please give the young man time, he will develop to fulfill his potentials. He is only 22 for crying out loud.
He is in his 5th season, scored less than Kos & earns £thousands per week!
You do the maths
agreed.
Oxlaide-Chamberlain reminds me of a very young Theo Walcott (with some slight differences, of course). While he will play defense (unlike Theo at the same stage of his career), The Ox is totally one-dimensional as an offensive player, relying solely on his speed and strength to take the ball past opponents. But, once he has done that, he doesn’t know what to do with the ball because he is a sub-par passer and can’t hit the side of a barn with a shot or cross.
Like Theo, Oxlaide-Chamberlain’s development has been retarded by injuries, so it is too early to give up on him just yet. Nevertheless, The Ox needs to put in a lot of extra work on the training ground at this point–now!–if he wants to fulfill his potential as a player. Otherwise, he will end up being nothing more than an ox in a china shoppe, with very limited value to a top-flight club.
He needs to start with very simple technical exercises, like dribbling past a couple of hypothetical opponents and immediately hitting a smallish target with a pass while still on the run…50-100 times in a row after practice before going into the lockerroom. Or, having the ball rolled to him at different angles, in and around the box, and hitting the net with a shot where he intends it to go 25 times in a row after practice. In short, he needs to focus on learning to make the ball go where he wants it to go when he touches it so that his skills can allow the game to slow down for him when he is running at break-neck speed, harried by opponents, in the middle of a match. Yes, playing and experience helps, but the preparation for success is done on the training ground and it is up to the individual player to put in the extra work needed after practices to improve the weaknesses in his game.
Oxlaide-Chamberlain has the talent and ability to be an exceptional player. But, that it not enough to become one. He now needs to put in the extra work on the training ground that transforms a young player with talent into a successful professional. You can’t just have talent to be a star in any sport, you have to love the game and be driven to put in the work necessary to improve every single day. Is The Ox? We’ll see. But, it will have to come soon.
These so called Arsenal fans digging at the Ox are talking complete rubbish – The Ox is a great talent and is a young English player and therefore should get far more leeway then the lads we bring in from overseas as ultimately they wont stay – I go home and away with Arsenal and he’s just suffering from a dip in confidence and is not relaxed on the pitch and therefore not playing his normal game in a way he’s almost trying too hard – he just needs one to deflect in and he will get back on track – get off his back !!!
@ogban, while there is truth in what you say, the problem is the Ox should not be in this position, he looks decidedly unhappy all the time, now why that is I certainly don’t know but unless he snaps out of it pretty damn quick Wenger will lose patience, and rightly so.
He is a young lad and will come good. No need to get hostile and edgy and talk about selling the lad..Calm down.
A young lad taxing the fans of their £thousands by not fulfilling his potential, I wouldn’t mind if he took a pay cut as he thinks selfies, social media and appearances are more important than his performance but he’s not going to do that
Runs around like a headless chicken give cambell more minutes
Remember Ramsey anyone, give the boy time he needs to change his style of play slightly and he’ll be fine. Arsenal with Ramsey in the middle are far more dynamic than Arsenal with Cazorla. Look where Ramsey was a few years ago when he’s fit and in the middle he one of the perms best cms.
The fact is Ramsey had to simplify his game to get where he is now, Ox has started on that road to get his confidence up he needs to stay fit play it simple and it will come. 22 is a baby in prem terms, Look at Hazard he’s a proven world class player as is Fabregas, Sweinsteiger and Rooney how are they performing at the moment.
This is a silly moronic response to a player just back in the team who’s been unlucky with injuries. He will be a top star in the next 2 seasons, do what your job is and support the lad for gods sake
Injuries has played a part in his current slump, add to it inexperience, he needs time to get out of the rut he is in. That said he needs to concentrate more on his game and work on protecting the ball. At times you find arsenal players like to go for flair over keeping it simple, while its fun to watch it, if its only coming off 1 every 10 times, and it hurts the team. Ramsey is guilty of this as well. will lose the ball trying some ridiculous piece of skill when an easy pass is open. and like the OX it comes of 10% of the time.
While Ramseys game is better suited in the middle of the park, we are a stronger as a team with Santi there. He protects the ball and tuns it over far less which decreases the amount of counters that come against us. Santi may not make those gut busting runs into the box, but he is a more solid and stable CM in the team. His passing vision is also much more superior than Ramsey and rarely if ever gets plucked with the ball in the middle. Ramsey is good for one of those a game.
I think there is a future for the OX, and if we add a winger in the summer a loan deal may not be the worst option for him to find his form elsewhere it has worked wonders for JW and others. hard to imagine him getting a run of games with Sanchez, Theo, Ramsey (Thrown on the wings to help him improve in tight spaces) and an emerging Campbell ahead of him for now.
Should we get Isco in the summer along with Rabiot or el Neny hard to see Ramsey playing in the middle consistently meaning the wings for him OX lower down the pecking order.
A loan where he can shine is a great gamble.
Well said.
