Gedion Zelalem is set to seal a new deal which will see him remain in Scotland for the rest of the campaign.

The highly-rated Arsenal youngster is currently at Rangers on a six-month loan after being sent out to the Scottish championship during the summer.

But following Zelalem’s impressive form, Rangers boss Mark Warburton has expressed his plans to keep the midfielder at the club for the rest of the campaign.

As a result, Liam Brady, in Glasgow as an Arsenal representative, has held talks with Rangers to extend the 18-year-old’s loan deal till May.

“So far, we are in good shape,” said Warburton. “The feedback from Arsenal has been very positive.

“He is speaking to his family and, hopefully, we are closing to securing him.”

Despite Arsenal’s current injury woes, there now appears to be no signs of a mid-season return for Zelalem who is one of several stars out on loan.

“The current deal is until January, but, as long as everyone is happy, we will extend that.” the Rangers boss added

“I have been delighted with his contribution and the last game he played for Rangers was his best so far.

“We have a great relationship with Arsenal and our job is to make sure they know their asset is being developed properly.”
