Former Gunner Andrey Arshavin has picked out one Arsenal player whom he believes is no longer good enough to warrant a starting spot in Mikel Arteta’s line-up.

The Russian spent half a decade in north London after joining the club from Zenith in a deal which made him the most expensive signing in Arsenal’s history for several years until the arrival of Mesut Ozil in the summer of 2013.

Incidentally, Arshavin has spoken candidly about the German midfielder, who is still at the Emirates stadium, despite a considerable amount of uncertainty and criticism surrounding his future.

Ozil is currently the Gunners’ highest paid player and that has seem him get slammed by fans on occasions when he has not been able to make a telling contribution in games.

Despite the former Real Madrid star’s erratic form though, Mikel Arteta has often kept faith in Ozil, who has started more games under the Spaniard this season than he did under Unai Emery.

For Andrey Arshavin, Ozil is no longer a player who deserves to be featuring regularly for the Gunners.

“As a player of course I respect him. Mesut is a world class player,” Arshavin said speaking to 888Sport.

“But for me personally he slows down the game. I would prefer to use another player. Mikel, as we can see, is the opposite and plays him a lot.

“He has improved his game at Arsenal but still in the future I do not see him there.”
