‘I have still got room for improvement’
With Evra to beat as first choice left-back for France and the emergence of Gibbs at Arsenal, Gael Clichy knows he has to make a habit of impressing every week.
The 24-year-old has flourished in the full-back role since filling Ashley Cole’s void for the Gunners and has been one of Wenger’s regular performers in recent years.
But Clichy also has a slight reputation of being error-prone and in a recent interview, boldly admitted there were areas in his game that needed improvement.
Of course, Gael – who made several position changes while nurtured by Wenger – could have ended up a different player, but with the likes of Traore and Gibbs eager to step up in the pecking order at Arsenal, he will do more progress himself.
“When I started, I used to play as a striker but I wasn’t good enough so moved to midfield and then eventually, I found my self as a left-back.” Clichy said.
“For seven years now I have been a left-back with Arsenal and I think I have progressed a lot. But I have still got room for improvement and working with players like Ashley Cole, Lauren and Campbell made be a better player.”
He added: “So of course I can improve but I’m really proud of what I have achieved here so far.”
Don’t worry, Clichy we are here to support you! There is room for improvement and you will get to where you need to be in no time! Keep up the good work!
Go Gunner!
So long as Clichy remains discipline, hard working and teachable, there’s no doubt that he will only get better.I remembered when Cashly Cole left us, Clichy took over without us missing Cashly at all. Clichy, we have faith in you.
