Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright took to Twitter to applaud one of the defenders who featured in the Gunners’ win over Valencia in the Europa League on Thursday night.

The Gunners have not been at their best over the past two weeks after completely losing the advantage they had over rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea in the race to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season.

Arsenal knew that another bad result on Thursday would have put the campaign in serious jeopardy with a place in the Champions League next season deemed as the club’s priority, heading into the summer.

After seeing their opponents concede three soft goals in the second half of their game on Sunday, Valencia sensed the Gunners were very vulnerable at the back.

The Spanish side did have a real go at the Arsenal defence – especially in the opening minutes – but a fine display from Laurent Koscielny saw the hosts go on to win.

As a result, Ian Wright has applauded the Frenchman’s performance on Twitter…
