Martin Atkinson has been appointed as the referee for Sunday’s Premier League opening fixture against West Ham United.

The Gunners will host the Hammers at Emirates stadium in a bid to begin their challenge for title with all three points.

Apart from a 6-1 victory at Everton in 2009, Arsenal have not made a habit of flying start on the opening day of the campaign in recent years.

The last time Martin Atkinson was in charge of an Arsenal league match was during the north London derby in February which saw Wenger’s men succumb to a 2-1 defeat at White Hart Lane.

Below is a chart of Arsenal’s record when Atkinson is the referee.
