The Russian limped off late on with an injury, but with Premier League action not back until next week, Arshavin may only miss the international break.

And speaking to his personal website later on Saturday, the 28-year-old gave his reaction to the extremely unlucky visit to Old Trafford.

Question: Isn’t it a pity today?

[A.A]: Now I am upset with the result.

Yes, we suffered the first defeat, which, I think will give us additional strength. We will later draw our conclusions for the season and not now.

We lost because once we went ahead, the team was still playing an attacking brand of game rather than sitting back – because you don’t just want to retain the lead but maybe add more.

In the second half, Manchester pressed little but did enough to score two goals on us. After that, we got desperate but we had really given enough and so all the three points were thrown away.

Andrew, is Fletcher’s first half tackle why you were replaced later on?

Be the first to receive breaking news about Arsenal!

[A.A]: I began the game injured anyway. This injury has worried me for a long time, but I had to play.

I may be able to perform in St. Petersburg during the international break. And all my hope is to get treatment from doctors quick, but believe me, I will be able to recover – if not for the match with Liechtenstein, then at least for Wales.

Andrew, fine health! then. Russia will be waiting for its captain.

[A.A]: This is the only positive point today. For tomorrow I’m going home to Russia.
