Journalist Sam Dean has claimed that one of the Gunners’ targets in the transfer market is actually keen on a move to the Emirates stadium this summer.

Mikel Arteta appears to have strengthened his squad with the additions of Willian and Gabriel so far but there might be a couple of gaps to fill before the summer transfer window ends.

Due to the current uncertainty that is surrounding  the future of Emi Martinez, it now looks as though the Arsenal boss will need to pursue another goalkeeper for the upcoming season.

Thus, Brentford shot-stopper David Raya has emerged as a target for the Gunners, but the Championship club are not willing to negotiate a deal with Arsenal to sell their goalkeeper.

Nonetheless, according to the Telegraph journalist  Sam Dean, the 24-year-old is rather keen on signing for Arsenal.

THE BOTTOM LINE

It is really a shame that Martinez is not willing to stay at the club if he is not preferred to Leno as the number one. The Argentine’s form towards the end of last season was in my opinion, impressive enough to put him ahead of Leno in the pecking order.

And considering how Martinez knows the club well and is no stranger to the system Arteta is building, it be would much wiser to keep him rather than recruit a new goalkeeper.

Nonetheless, at 27, it does makes sense that he is desperate for the number one spot and I guess if Leno isnt happy staying on the bench either, then signing Raya should be the last resort.

The Spaniard was a key part of Brentford’s great run last term which saw them almost secure promotion to the Premier League. He is obviously a talented goalkeeper and even though the Martinez situation might have a sad end, bringing in a shot-stopper with Raya’s potential might be the best possible consolation.
