Arsenal said to be to still attempting to secure the services of one of the Spanish league’s best midfielders as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his squad for next campaign.

The Arsenal boss has seen a decent amount of improvement in his side’s form over the past couple of weeks, after beginning the resumption of fixtures with back-to-back losses against Manchester City and Brighton.

With plans for next season now on the horizon, Atletico Madrid star Thomas Party has been constantly linked with a move to the Emirates stadium.

And it now appears as though the Gunners are pushing for the signature of the Ghanaian midfielder, according to Fabrizio Romano.

In response to another post asking for an update on the potential move, the reliable Italian journalist claimed that Arsenal are indeed ‘trying’ to secure a deal to sign Partey, even though an agreement is yet to be reached.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Considering the fact that Mesut Ozil’s days at the club appear to be numbered, it would have been wiser for Mikel Arteta to pursue an immediate replacement for the German and that would mean bringing in a creative midfielder rather than a combative one.

Thomas Partey’s strengths are more as a holding midfielder than a playmaker and even though the Ghanaian will add a considerable level of quality to the Arsenal midfield, this team is in need of an out-and-out creative midfielder.

Signing a gifted playmaker – like Coutinho for example – to play alongside Partey in midfield, would really make the Gunners a formidable side for their opponents.
