Sami Khedira has revealed that Arsenal were one of his suitors during last summer’s transfer window.
The German international is now on the verge of joining Juventus after spending the 2014/15 campaign as an out-of-favour option at Real Madrid.
However, Khedira would have been an Arsenal player today if everything had gone to plan last year. The midfielder was linked with a switch to north London for much of the summer of 2014 before the transfer failed to materialize.
And according to the 28-year-old, there was some truth in the rumours that Arsenal were targeting his services.
“When I came back from the World Cup, I wanted to move on but a lot of things happened. In the end I chose to stay in Madrid but I also received calls from Wolfsburg and Arsenal of course.” Khedira told Sky Italia
“Everyone will know where I am going when it is all decided”
Juventus director Beppe Marotta confirmed today that Khedira will soon be having a medical ahead of a move which strengthens the Serie A champions’ midfield.
That has encouraged speculation that Juventus’ signing of Khedira is only to replace Arturo Vidal who is reportedly bound for Arsenal.
The Gunners have been linked with a host of holding midfielders including Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin, but Arsene Wenger is giving nothing away at the moment.
“I’m not in the buying mood tonight. I will buy a drink for my players. We’ll see what’s going on in the transfer market but we have a good basis.” Wenger said after Saturday’s FA Cup triumph
“We have some time to prepare because we won’t be playing a Champions League qualifier. We have a good confidence level, so let’s show that we can be intelligent during the summer.”
