Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo has suggested that Olivier Giroud’s famous strike against Crystal Palace did not deserve to be named the best goal of the year 2017.
The Arsenal striker was awarded the FIFA Puskas Award on Monday after receiving more votes than the two other nominees.
Giroud’s goal, which he scored in the Premier League back in January, was up against a memorable strike from Baroka FC star Oscarine Masuluke which saw the goalkeeper find the back of the net with an outstanding acrobatic effort.
And according Ronaldo, who was named FIFA Best Male Player of the year, the South African shot-stopper deserved the prize ahead of Giroud.
“I like Olivier Giroud’s goal, but I have to give credit to the goalkeeper.” the Real Madrid star said
“He(usually) never goes forward and he tried an amazing goal, too,”
