Arsene Wenger has addressed rumours which have suggested he is planning on securing a deal for one of the Premier League’s highly-rated stars.
The Arsenal manager finally changed his spending habits during the final weeks of the summer transfer window as he signed Lucas Perez and Shkodran Mustafi in an expensive double deal.
However, Wenger has not been as active in the January transfer window, adding only one player, Cohen Bramall, to the squad.
With the future of Mesut Ozil still uncertain, the Gunners have been linked with a move for a new attacking midfielder.
Dimitri Payet is reported to be Arsenal’s biggest target, with West Ham apparently asking for a £30 million fee from any suitors.
But, Wenger insists he is not even interested in recruiting the France international.
“I don’t need Payet because we have so many creative players. I rate Payet as a player of course, but it’s not an area where we look for players. We have many players offensively who can play in this position.” the Gunners boss said on Thursday
“You’re interested by the quality of the player but there has to be a need as well, and we have no need in this domain.”
