Former Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann has heaped praise on the man who is currently playing in his position at the Emirates stadium.

Lehmann was arguably Arsene Wenger’s last goalkeeper of world-class quality, helping the club towards the famous title triumph in 2004.

Many believed the German had not been replaced at Arsenal until the arrival of Petr Cech from Chelsea in the summer of 2015.

And according to Lehmann, the veteran shot-stopper is one of the players he has always rated highly.

“Fortunately it wasn’t [initially] too big at Chelsea, because when he came we won the championship,” the ex-Gunner said

“In the years after, when he was 23 or 24, you could see what a great goalkeeper he was and year by year he’s improved.

“I’ve always rated him as one of the best goalkeepers ever. It’s good to see that he’s doing even better this season than last season.

“He’s calm so he calms people down, he’s got a presence. He’s a fantastic guy and a big, big benefit and asset for Arsenal now.

“He’s credible in what he says and what he does.”
