Major blow for Wenger as Arsenal confirm key player will not play against CSKA Moscow
Arsene Wenger has received another blow on the fitness front ahead of the clash with CSKA Moscow in the Europa League on Thursday.
The Gunners are hoping to win Europe’s second tier club competition this season in order to return to the Champions League next term after what has been a very disappointing campaign in the Premier League so far.
Arsenal prepared for the clash against CSKA Moscow by managing to beat Southampton 3-2 in what was a pulsating affair at the Emirates stadium on Sunday.
Granit Xhaka featured from the start in that game but he will not be able to play a part in the upcoming European fixture.
The 25-year-old has been involved in most of the Gunners’ games this season but much to the disappointment of Wenger, he will not be playing on Thursday.
On Wednesday, Arsenal confirmed on social media that Xhaka would not be able to make the trip to Russia due to a sudden illness.
