Arsene Wenger has made a strong claim regarding the future of one of his most valuable players ahead of the January transfer window.
The Arsenal manager has been billed with the task of convincing his key players to remain at the club following an erratic start to the season.
Wenger, who sold the likes of Gabriel and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the summer, now has to find a way to keep Mesut Ozil at the Emirates stadium.
The Germany international has certainly attracted more suitors in recent weeks with sublime performances which included a brilliant volley against Newcastle on Saturday.
That has prompted speculation about Ozil joining rivals Manchester United in the winter, but Wenger has revealed that the 29-year-old is actually intent on remaining with the Gunners.
“I believe he wants to stay, he is not to be convinced [to sign a new contract],” said Wenger.
“You want nobody to leave and you see where we stand on that. But at the moment, it’s very difficult.
“Until the end of the season we know what it is, but after that, I cannot tell you.”
