Arsenal skipper Per Mertesacker has heaped praise on the latest man to join the Gunners in the January transfer window.
Arsene Wenger kicked off his transfer business this month by securing the addition of young Greek defender Konstantinos Maprovanos before approving the sales of Francis Coquelin and Theo Walcott to Valencia and Everton respectively.
And following those deals, the Gunners manager agreed to sell Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United on Monday with Henrikh Mkhitaryan moving to north London in return.
The Armenian international struggled to get used to life at United after leaving the Bundesliga in the summer of 2016.
However, Mkhitaryan has received the backing of Arsenal captain Per Mertesacker to become a success at the Emirates stadium after being handed Sanchez’s old squad number.
“I just want to point out what a brilliant addition I believe he’ll be.” the veteran centre-back said
“He’s got all the ingredients to be successful here.”
The ex-Dortmunnd star was present at the Emirates stadium on Wednesday to watch his new club defeat Chelsea 2-1 in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup to set up a mouthwatering final against Manchester City next month.
