Per Mertesacker gave a cryptic response when asked about whether he will still be playing for Arsenal at this time next season.

The former Germany international has been out of action for three months after suffering a serious knee injury during pre-season.

Mertesacker’s time on the sidelines is an opportunity for him to reconsider his future at Arsenal with his contract set to expire in June 2017.

The 32-year-old has been linked with a move to several Bundesliga clubs but he insists no decision has been made.

“I don’t know [if I’ll be staying yet],” he said in an interview with 101 great goals.

“My first priority is to get back to full fitness which will still take awhile. So let’s see…”

The centre-back is still likely to play a part in Arsenal’s pursuit of the Premier League title this season and he has picked out two of the players who could lead Wenger’s men to glory.

“We have many very good players in our squad. For sure, Theo and Alexis are among them. And Theo needs to stay fit. As long as he does I expect a lot more to come. We need him.” he added
