Gary Lineker reacts to 2-0 win over United with a joke about Arsenal
Gary Lineker reacted to the Gunners’ victory over Manchester United on Wednesday by attempting to troll Mikel Arteta’s side, who had secured their first ever win under their new boss.
Arsenal had been waiting for their first triumph under Arteta, following the arrival of the Spaniard in late December, as the club finally made a decision on who would be replacing Unai Emery.
Having failed to beat Bournemouth, Everton and Chelsea in their last three games before Wednesday’s fixture, the Gunners found themselves sitting in 13th place in the table.
That was the lowest the club had been in the top flight for more than two decades, with the recent win over West Ham being Arsenal’s only victory in 15 matches across all competitions.
Thus, it came as a bit of a surprise to some pundits as the Gunners comfortably defeated Manchester United to start the new year and Gary Lineker joked about it being a ‘mid-table’ win after the final whistle.
Excellent and important victory for @Arsenal and Mikel Arteta. Mid-table wins don’t come much bigger. 😉
