He ironically scored his first and only goal for Malaga last weekend in a 3-2 victory over Real Mallorca, but Nacho Monreal is not all about goals at left-back.
And if the saying “you are as good as your last game” is anything to go by, then Arsenal’s new signing was not bad at all the last time he was in action on Sunday.
Indeed, it was a performance which earned him rave reviews, drawing praise from Fox Sports writer Noah Tan, who named Monreal in the La Liga team of the week.
“Malaga had Monreal to thank for their hard-earned win over Mallorca as the former Osasuna player first cleverly set up Isco to score in the 16th minute, then scored a vital winning goal midway through the second half with an unstoppable shot which left goalkeeper Juan Calatayud no chance.” Noah Tan wrote.
“The 26-year-old was a rock at the back for Malaga and demonstrated great bravery to put his body in line of relentless Mallorca fire. Monreal may go home bruised and battered, but he will have every reason to keep his chin up after a fantastic battling defensive display.” Tan added
