The Dutchman’s withdrawal after just 34 minutes was the only glitch about Arsenal’s impressive result at Blackburn on Saturday.

Van Persie, who provided the assist to Walcott’s goal, had to be replaced by Marouane Chamakh – causing fears over a repeat of last season’s fitness woes.

Despite his undoubted talent, the 27-year-old’s Arsenal career has been marred by injuries but the latest problem he suffered at Edwood Park should not keep him out for too long.

According to Arsene Wenger, the World Cup finalist will sit out less than two weeks of action after taking a slight blow to his ankle.

“It is a twisted ankle. We will have to check but if we have no bad news, we hope that in 8-10 days he can be okay”.

Van Persie is now unlikely to be called upon by the Netherlands for next week’s international breakĀ  – the scene of his season-threatening injury last year.
