Arsenal have began what is expected to be a very busy summer with the announcements of new shirt numbers for several players.
Alexis Sanchez’s switch from no. 17 to 7 was confirmed earlier in the week as the Chilean international remains on course to sign a new contract at the Emirates stadium.
And as of today, another man who is set to be rewarded with a new deal at the club – Alex Iwobi – has swapped no. 45 for Sanchez’s old no. 17.
The Nigerian youngster joins Aaron Ramsey in the squad number changes department after the Welshman picked up Mikel Arteta’s vacated no. 8 yesterday.
However the most interesting of all the shirt number announcements is that of new signing Granit Xhaka who has been left with no choice but to pick Ramsey’s old no. 16 for his debut season in the Premier League.
The Swiss midfielder was popular for wearing the no. 34 – which has tattooed on his back – at Borussia Monchengladbach, however, current occupant Francis Coquelin reportedly refused to give up the number.
