Oxlade-Chamberlain reveals when he was ’embarrassed’ at Arsenal

Former Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has looked back and picked out an incident during his days at Arsenal which has been hard to forget.

The 24-year-old moved to the Emirates stadium in 2011 from Southampton after being touted as one of England’s brightest young prospects.

However, after failing to live up to that potential at Arsenal, Oxlade-Chamberlain decided to join Liverpool in the final week of this year’s summer transfer window.

And in a candid interview, the midfielder has recalled when he was mistaken for Kieran Gibbs by the referee in the 6-0 loss at Stamford Bridge a couple of years ago.

“I thought I was [Gianluigi] Buffon in goal at Stamford Bridge and I tipped the ball around the post. Then Kieran Gibbs got sent off instead of me,” Oxlade-Chamberlain said

“I went to the referee to try and tell him it was me but it was mistaken identity. He didn’t want to know.

“That was pretty embarrassing.”
