Mesut Ozil appears to share most fans’ opinion about how he managed to fail in his quest to break Thierry Henry’s assist record this season.
The German international took only three months following the start of the season to reach double figures in assists but he struggled to increase his tally after January, finishing with 19 in total – one behind Henry’s record.
With over 140 chances created – more than any other player in Europe – the former Real Madrid star could argue that the profligate finishing of Arsenal’s strikers is what actually cost him the accomplishment.
For most fans, Olivier Giroud, who went 15 league games without scoring, is the biggest culprit when it comes to wasting goal-scoring chances from playmakers…and Ozil agrees.
The 27-year-old was spotted today ‘liking’ a post on Instagram which mocked Giroud for being responsible for his decreased assist rate.
