Mesut Ozil has revealed what he believes were the reasons behind Arsenal’s failure to win the Premier League.
League leaders at the start of January, the Gunners were heavy favourites to be crowned champions and end a 12-year title drought following the struggles of rivals Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool.
But after surrendering the title to Leicester City, Ozil, who managed to produce 19 assists in the league, has admitted that Arsenal’s form in March – along with fitness – is really what cost them the trophy.
“I think we dropped a lot of points that we shouldn’t have against smaller teams, especially after the Barcelona game” the German said
Apart from overcoming that terrible run of form in spring, the 27-year-old believes that Arsene Wenger will have to improve his squad with the additions of more powerful players this summer.
“A lot of things must go right, one factor is injuries; we have to focus more and focus on getting stronger players” Ozil added
“We will also be stronger than last season. New players will come in to make the team stronger.”
