Arsene Wenger appears to have begun his mission to wrap up certain important deals within the squad well before next summer’s transfer window.
With new deals for the likes of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez yet to be signed, the Arsenal manager has turned his focus to other players in the first team.
According to French radio station RMC, the Gunners have opened talks with Olivier Giroud over extending his contract at the club which expires in June 2018.
Giroud, a much-maligned figure who was linked with an exit last summer, has endured a stop-start season so far after spending the first few weeks of the campaign out of action before returning to settle for a role on the bench due to the prolific form of Alexis Sanchez.
The report by RMC also claims that another Arsenal star, Francis Coquelin, will also agree a new deal to remain at the Emirates stadium.
Arsenal’s decision to convince the duo to commit their future to the club is a reasonable move considering how the likes of Bacary Sagna and Robin van Persie departed after contractual disputes a couple of years ago.
