Jamie Redknapp has questioned Arsene Wenger’s team selection, following the opening game of the season.

The Gunners secured all the three points in Friday’s clash with Leicester City at the Emirates stadium.

And victory came courtesy of a brilliant header from Olivier Giroud in the dying moments of the game.

The French striker has been labelled by some fans as the perfect ‘plan B’ to have off the bench, especially after the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette.

However, pundit Jamie Redknapp insists the 30-year-old striker should actually be named in the starting line-up and not as a substitute.

“Giroud is too good to be an impact man from the bench.” he said

“He is behind Alexandre Lacazette and Alexis Sanchez and Arsene Wenger has a job on his hands to keep all his strikers happy. Giroud can remain a supersub but it’s a waste of his talents.”

Giroud had been linked with a move away from the Emirates stadium since last year, but following a reported interest from Everton this summer, the Frenchman has opted to stay at the club.

The former Montpellier striker managed to score 16 goals in all competitions in the 2016/17 season, despite being limited to the role of Alexis Sanchez’s back-up.
