Arsenal are attempting to secure what would be their third signing of the summer transfer window, according to the often reliable David Ornstein.

With the 2020/21 season set to kick off in just over a week, Mike Arteta is now looking to wrap up his summer additions and prepare for another push for a place in the top four of the Premier League.

Lyon star Houssem Aouar appaears to be on the radar of the Gunners, even though Dani Ceballos is back on loan at the club to increase the options available in midfield.

According to journalist David Ornstein, Arsenal have actually begun discussions over a deal to sign Aouar from the French side who reached the semi-finals of the Champions League last term.

THE BOTTOM LINE

As I have said on several ocassions, the area where this team desperately needs some strengthening is actually in attacking midfield.

There has not been a replacement for Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil is actually the only out-and-out playmaker in the squad. Dani Ceballos is a box-to-box midfielder at best and therefore cannot be relied on for most of the creativity.

That makes a player with the ability to create like Aouar a real necessity for Arteta, since Xhaka, Torreira and Willock are not known for their playmaking know-how.

Arsenal’s midfield is short of a Fabregas, Nasri or Ozil type of player who can unlock the opposition’s defence. With Ozil hardly available to play, a replacement playmaker is desperately needed.
