Report: Arsenal 0-0 Fulham
By Randy Osae
Sorry times in the league failed to see an end today, as Arsenal fired yet more blanks against Fulham.
In three months time, the synopsis of 2008/09 might just bemoan this awkward 0-0 series. Wenger and his side now hardly have lingering hopes of top four status. ‘Ifs’ and ‘buts’ have been and will be all over that fate.
To be realistic, they are very much up against it.
Surprise, surprise, Carlos Vela began a league match off the dug-out and neither was Bendtner foiling Van Persie upfront today. Wenger intended shaking things up to the satisfaction of critical ones at the ground. Arshavin, nearly as tall as Nasri, was a support striker. Frankly, the attacking battalion was of average height.
West Ham and Sunderland had come to the Emirates with shop meanly shut on the trot. That had Wenger seeking a more enthusiastic approach from Roy Hodgon’s often shy travelers today.
Thus, Fulham would give Arsenal some game to defy that concept .
Within minutes after kick-off, Andy Johnson found himself a yard past Arsenal’s defense on two occasions, but he managed to miss inflicting a set-back on the hosts – scuffing both efforts past Almunia and his post.
Fulham were dictating momentum until Arshavin nicked a cross onto Van Persie’s head, but Schwarzer tipped the ball over. Soon after, the Dutchman could have made amends, but fired wide after a slick move between him and Vela had unlocked the visitors’ backline.
The entire Arsenal set-up were pulling strings – especially after the break – but it was always Van Persie who would be in the thick of the action.
He met Nasri’s corner kick well on 53 minutes, but the ball agonizingly floated onto the roof of goal. Indeed, being the tallest among Arsenal’s front-men today, Van Persie was in leaping mood – glancing a header onto Sagna’s cross later on. Fulham’s stopper had been beaten, but the post stood firm to meet the ball.
Make no mistake, the three points were at stake for both teams – not just Arsenal. And Fulham through Johnson and Zamora, proved very worrisome – demanding last ditch tackles and deflections from Sagna, Toure and Gallas to ensure safety from a devastating sucker punch.
Wenger did face the U-turn of reinstating the much-maligned duo of Bendtner and Eboue, but despite their rare endeavors which inspirited the Gunners, nothing could hit.
And so, Arsenal and an opponent canceled out each other yet again.
Why no preview Randy?? See if eboue sarted maybe arsenal could have gotten something out of this game. Well we’ll be fighting for a place in Europe and i mean ALL of europe. everton is 2 points away from us and aston villa is pulling away from us. Why have we only received 5 points from a possible 15.
Well, my decision to not even write a preview looks more worthy now. (unless you just enjoy reading it).
What’s the need of sacrificing a share of my time to build up another disgusting outcome?
i woke up early this morning to watch this game, And i guess i wasted it 90 minutes of my life when i already knew the outcome.
I got up late this morning thinking that these people did something good to come rush to turn on the computer to see what they done and watch 1 hour of crap. But I was pleased with bendtner and eboue performances.
i blame the coach and the player, this is the worse set we have. They are no pro footballer in anyone of them, they cant run, mark or create space to pass the ball. Bad positioning, lazy. Name it they have it all in this team. And we pay them to do this every week. I will not be watching any gooners match again until the end of season. most of all i blame the coach, he bought the players so he should take the blame.
Maybe someone should tell Denilson every game is a big game. Maybe then he’ll actually show up to play. I think the announcer called his name about 4 times all game, while Danny Murphy and Etuhu got called every other minute. Wenger’s going to have a hell of a time keeping the team playing UEFA Cup next season. If RVP can’t score, apparently the other 9 outfield players can’t either. At least Arshavin shows so far he’s worth his price tag.
something is not right behind the scenes. the players feel that have an excuse why they are not winning and this is why they lack the desire to win. If a player has a 5% worry in his head about the teams inabilty to score this will seriously affect them. if av beat stoke tomorrow 4th place is over ps. i am not one of these fans who thinks wenger should be sacked tho
big time charlie rvp missin 1 on 1s every week . thats why we are were we are. whens the last time he scored from a free kick. yet big time charlie boy takes all our free kicks. talkin the other day that it was all about winning trophies. well stop fukin missing sitters u big headed dik
rvp has missed more sitters than adebayor this season he is not a natural goalscorer my god weve missed eduardo so badly this season
today was one of the days that you cannot fault Wenger in terms of negativity etc. he played diaby despite having a slight injury instead of song and dropped bentdner, hoping for a change in the amount of chances taken. thankfully eboue didnt start either although his effort cannot be questioned recently. therefore the responsibility today has to fall on the players. is it through lack of quality, fulham’s performance or missed chances. who knows?
Because of performances like these im not even confident of a win at PL strugglers WBA.
west brom will beat us because they will give all they have to win . our big headed team think all they have to do is turn up
I guess Williams Gallas and David Dein would be having a laugh now. I can remember vividly that Dein predicted this situation Arsenal faces should the Board and Arsene Wenger continue to fence off investors and resist recruitment of established players. He was vilified and relegated. Gallas spoke the truth early in the season as a way of rallying his inexperienced team mates but he was called names, booed and relegated (stripped of his captain band). I still wonder why he did not leave in January, though he gained more of my respect for that staying back. Any fan that truly loves Arsenal should speak the truth and let Arsene and the Board know that they are killing a great team to promote their personal ego and selfishness. I hope we all learn from this experience to face the truth no matter how ”bitter” they sound!
Just not good enough this season. The end of the match was truely sad. We did not even compete for the ball. Fulham looked like Arsenal of 3 years ago with their passing.
Sad state of affairs at Ashburton Grove
im disgusted to say im an arsenal fan these days. Were the laughing stock of all the teams above us.
Stand firm Anto, fans are not recognized in glorious days…if anything, it’s these times.
Let’s moan about this night-mare of a season, not question our love/support.
y not give the young guns a go now?
Right on Randy, lets not question our faith..and lets hope. After all if life is all about hope..
we should play our carling cup squad and well do much better
Great game. Disappointing result.
