Report: Arsenal 3-0 Wigan
A terrific first ever hat-trick from Robin van Persie secured the points against Wigan to move Arsenal into second place on the league table.
It had been a dominant performance by Wenger’s men today but their wastefulness in front of goal had to be spared by the class of Van Persie.
The Gunners terrorized Wigan’s defense from kick-off and it took 21 minutes to break the resistance of Wigan’s goalkeeper as Van Persie received Song’s through pass and whipped the ball home to put his side ahead.
An enormous amount of goal-mouth chances went begging for Arsenal afterwards as the visitors somehow remained in the game into the second-half, but an even more emphatic finish from Van Persie after being found by Fabregas handed Wenger’s men their much-deserved second goal in the 58th minute.
And after missing a golden chance to score his first ever hat-trick for Arsenal from a penalty kick opportunity which saw Wigan go down to ten men, Van Persie slammed home his and Arsenal’s third from a nearly impossible angle with his weaker foot to bring a comfortable day to an end.
The Gunners were hardly rampant today, but with such quality in their armoury, they did not have to be to clinch victory.
RVP will win it for us……
Gr8 discipline game today. Kossy was once again solid at the back.
Rvp is back to his best
The visitors remained in the game mainly due to great goal-keeping from Al-Habsi, not due to profligacy by Arsenal.
It was a combination of both. Enough said.
The team is playing very well….I still hope the manager can bring in Samba or Cahill by the end of this transfer window.
OMG is Song world class or what????
The cohesiveness between the back 4, the midfield and the strikers is impressive. Al-Habsi had to be 2nd in line for MOTM as he was spectacular in denying Arsenal another 3 goals at least. I laughed when RVP blasted his penalty over the bar using his left foot that was so deadly during the 90 minutes!!!!
we can win a great deal IF the following happens:
1) Our bench starts to produce like the Theo,Nasri ,RVP, Walcott,Cesc first teamers are doing!
2) RVP, Nasri and Cesc stay healthy and on form.
3) Our CB’s – Dourou and Kos, continue to play like they have these last few weeks and finally
4) Sczensy stays in nets.
It is no coincidence that Arsenal are dominating their opponents now….their back 5 are on top of their game, their midfield is absolutely dominant and their strikers are the deadliets in the league!
