Arsenal outclassed Southampton to secure their first win at the Emirates stadium this season. And some win it was.

The Gunners bossed the affair all day and an own-goal forced by Gibbs’ strike handed the hosts an early lead. Lukas Podolski then doubled the advantage with a sumptuous free-kick midway through the half before another pair of goals, one from Gervinho and another own-goal assisted by the Ivorian saw the home side 4-0 up after just 38 minutes.

The concentration of an idle Szczesny was given a test late in the first-half and he did not impress at all as the goalkeeper failed to catch a cross which fell to a Southampton man to thump the ball home with ease.

The second-half saw Arsenal retain their order as a tap-in from Gervinho and a coolly struck Walcott effort gave the Gunners a resounding 6-1 victory.

The three points and massive goal advantage has seen Arsenal climb up to third on the table.
