Report: Barcelona 3-1 Arsenal
Arsenal bowed out of the Champions League with their pride unharmed as controversial events helped Barcelona to a 3-1 win at the Camp Nou to overturn the Gunners’ 2-1 lead from the first leg.
A Fabregas blunder allowed Messi to hand the hosts a 1-0 lead on the stroke of half-time but Arsenal leveled against the odds through Sergio Busquets’ own goal to set up an intriguing finale which went Barcelona’s way – through a Xavi strike and Messi penalty kick – after Robin van Perise was harshly sent off.
Wenger’s men have exited the Champions League at the hands of Barcelona for another year, but much different to almost twelve months ago, they had hardly been battered. Indeed, the only battering they received was from lady luck.
Despite Barcelona’s inevitable dominance in the tie, – which sees them deservedly through perhaps – it finished 4-3 on aggregate, much tighter than anticipated, and in the end, matters were decided largely by the might of the referee than the might of Guardiola’s men.
A deucebag ref but a truly poor showing from the boys tonight.18-0 in chances and we are supposed to be the next best attacking side in the world…….bullshit.
Very disappointed in the performance. We couldn’t string 3 or more passes together. Rosicky and Nasri in particular I thought were pretty poor.
Man Utd will have to reap the whirlwind this weekend!
rosicky needs to go. diaby need to go in the reserves bentner needs to go in to the reserves. We need a fast hungry striker like henry.
ref again helped so 3-2 on aggragate pretty good
4-3
Zero attempts at goal and it’s the refs fault you lost?
Show some class you pikey mugs, they spanked you end of.
Nothing like a Spuds, Manure or other tosser to come and gloat. The Arsenal will get the last laugh this year.
Poor officiating, stupid referee, barca are nonsense
Easily the most disgraceful refereeing display I have seen in over 40 years of watching football. Having looked again at the decisions I can see 25 offside Barca passes ignored nasty tackles from Alves ignored Arsenal players being booked for nothing Abidal getting away with throttling RVP (what a gooner) It is easy to be the so-called best team in the world when all the cards are stacked in your favour, all I can say is enjoy the Barca wankfest, now back to the Premier League and the campaign to fiddle the Title for Fergie.
wenger made a big mistake, he was the weakest link in the game!!
Well ,well, well all said and done we are about to come with nothing again this season. 2 weeks ago we were chasing 4 trophies, 9 days later it’s just 2 and by the look of things it will soon be zero come end of May.Friends our boys are not hungry enough to win us anything. Our manager is a very good business man who wouldn’t be bothered to win anything as long as his financial books are o.k.We were chasing shadows at the Nou Camp. Almost 90% of the time we were pinned in our own half. Barcelona could have scored 6 or more goals if they took all their chances. We need a world class striker to play with Van Persie. We need another good strong defensive midfielder and at least one more dependable central defender. Now that our young goalie gets injured so easily we need to buy a mature goalie as well.Small teams like Birmingham beat us in cup finals. Big teams like Barcelona thrash us,so where do we stand? Complaining about the referees all the time will not help us.It is now a torture to watch us play in any of these important matches. Now both in the F.A. and premiership Man.U stands in our way. With our fragile boys I do not see us overcoming them.FOOD FOR THOUGHT!!!!!!
We lost O.K. Barca are a good team and even better when the cards are stacked in their favor. have watched soccer for 50 years that sending off with one second timing, must be the worst deceision ever made. The ref should be sensored by the official board at least. By the way during years when I played Blocking or body checking was rullled a foul.Barca did just that all game.!! I accept we lost but REF at least give us a fare chance!!!1
