Arsene Wenger has reportedly been offered the opportunity to agree what could be a club-record signing before the transfer window closes.

Arsenal are believed to be in pursuit of another midfielder to add to the squad after failing to secure deals for Riyad Mahrez and Julian Draxler in the past.

According to a new rumour, the president of Benfica has arrived in London to hold discussions with the Gunners over a move for winger Gonçalo Guedes.

The report claims that the Portuguese club’s leader Luis Filipe Vieira is with the player’s agent Jorge Mendes as they look to take further the possibility of a move to the Emirates stadium for the 20-year-old.

Benfica are apparently offering Guedes, who has a $51.9 million release clause, to all potential suitors with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United believed to be interested in his services.

Arsene Wenger stated at his press-conference on Thursday that he was unlikely to seek any more new signings before the transfer window closes.

However, the fact that Mesut Ozil is yet to sign a new contract while the future of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain remains unclear could push the Arsenal manager into making a last-ditch move.
