The Gunners were behind as early as three minutes following kick-off as Reid capitalized on the visitors’ achilles’ heel of defending corners to put West Brom a goal up.

Wenger’s men then fired a response for the rest of the first half and nearly equalized as a Van Persie header struck the bar before Ramsey’s follow-up from close range was saved.

Arsenal’s desperate resurgence meant they were always exposed at the back where Squillaci had been deputizing for the injured Djourou. And failure from the French man to deal with a long ball saw Almunia rush out of his goal to cause a mix-up which saw Odemwingie slot home a second for West Brom.

The Gunners still huffed and puffed for something out of the Hawthorns and a fine effort from Arshavin pulled one back with 20 minutes left. Moments later, a battling Van Persie managed to find Arsenal’s equalizer but they never managed to find a winner.
