The father of Arsenal midfielder Alex Iwobi has revealed he has missed out on trips to watch his son play because Arsene Wenger often leaves it late to declare the starting line-up.

Iwobi has had an eventful week after following up his first start in the Champions League at Barcelona with his first Premier League goal at Everton before his flight to Nigeria for international duty.

However, the 19-year-old’s parent claims that plans to watch the youngster in action at the stadium are never a certainty because Arsene Wenger keeps his squad selection as a secret for a long time ahead of games.

“Probably, my only regret was that I was not at the game. Wenger only announces his team two hours to a game, so you are never sure who will start or not.” Iwobi’s father said

“I am at all Arsenal home games because we live in London. But if I knew he would start, I would have been in the stadium in Liverpool to cheer him.”
