Rival Watch: Chelsea replace Cole with Benayoun, City land Yaya
Sometimes the threat of your opposition matters as much as your own ability.
That’s why this summer, Red London is introducing a new ‘Rival Watch’ feature to cover all major moves happening at Arsenal’s likely title rivals for the coming season.
This week in particular has witnessed several sensational announcements, so let’s start with:
LIVERPOOL
Liverpool have confirmed the appointment of Roy Hodgson as their new manager after parting company with Rafa Benitez following a disappointing campaign.
Surely the former Fulham genius cannot be as daft as the ‘fat Spanish waiter’? But will he have enough funds to rebuild the team?
CHELSEA
Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Yossi Benayoun (yes, Benayoun) on a three-year contract from Liverpool. The Israel international will be the blues’ direct replacement for free agent, Joe Cole.
So the 30-year-old fringe man is to soften the blow of Cole’s exit for the champions?
MAN. CITY
City became the club to finally put an end to the Yaya Toure merry-go-round of speculation as Mancini’s side completed the signing of Barcelona’s midfielder for around £27.5million. No wonder Arsenal were definitely not going to snap him up.
The confirmation of Toure’s signing comes only days after the Eastlands club secured the services of David Silva from Valencia.
Now that’s more and more options for City. Hmm.
They are 3 very good players. Question is how well will thy play together and how will present players react to the new comers?
Just hope we shall here a few big signings soon or are theses others guys any better than what we have. Beneyoun???
With the capture of Yaya Toure and David Silva, Man City are adding steel, flair and class to an already fearsome soccer monster that they are.I can visualise my beloved gunner sustaining hugely fractured and bleeding noses from any encounter with Man City. Arsene, please beef-up our defence and midfield or the wrting is on the wall. Arsenal FC should strive to avoid Liverpool’s soccer suicide – getting kicked out Champions League Soccer!
Wenger seems to be interested in Honda !!! YES YES YES, Honda is a fantastic player and I really hope he comes to Arsenal, especially when/if fabregas leaves, btw – seems Joe Cole has got himself a some kinda rival :p
Does someone know about Wenger spotting Defensive players and a Keeper? I already know about Schwarzer, but he doesnt seem to be the guy in goal…
With the other big boys rapidly signing strength I am getting edgy. apart from Joe Cole(ifthat comes off)I am not greatly impressed with what Mr W has managed so far. Arsene “get your finger and checkbook out” soon,or we may be in for another Liverpool season. I have been a fan for more than 50 years and we all deserve something better this year. It seems you have the money use it!! Promises are not enough. Our US President is proving that!!!!!!!
This is not a political forum, but i must take issue with you on your comments about the President.I know that many people wish for him to fail for their own selfish reasons, while others expect him to walk on water and turn water into wine. The fact is that, despite the various challenges which he has been faced with,he has performed better in two years, than most of his predecessors, and fulfilled most of his campaign promiseses. He has not been perfect, but he has been good.Take some time out and do a little honest reflection.
Good addition to the site.
Cheers mate! Hopefully Arsene can follow that and make good additions to the squad.
