Former Gunner Gilberto Silva has urged one of Unai Emery’s out-of-favour players to up his game and prove the manager wrong this season.

Ever since he replaced Arsene Wenger at the club in May last year, Unai Emery has maintained a reputation as a manager who is never hesitant to leave out certain players, regardless of how controversial his decision might seem to some fans.

Mesut Ozil happens to be one of the players whom Emery has not trusted enough to keep in his starting eleven at the club.

But former Arsenal star Gilberto Silva gas urged the German midfielder to work harder to win back the manager’s faith in him.

“There have been a lot of stories about him, whether he would play or not,” Silva told Sky Sports. “I am not close enough to understand what is going on.

“Obviously, he is a good player and I am sure it has been quite hard for him to see the game from our side. It’s about him to work hard and send a message to the manager that he is ready and that he wants to play.”
