Sky pundit: The Arsenal players Wenger has to sell
Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas has picked out the players whom he felt Arsenal should have said goodbye to before the transfer window closed.
The Gunners are heading into this weekend’s clash with Chelsea on the back of a major disappointment as Watford won 2-1 at the Emirates stadium on Tuesday.
Despite all the speculation during January, Arsene Wenger did not manage to offload any of his first team stars who are currently out of favour.
And according to Nicholas, there were at least two players the Arsenal manager could have gotten rid of.
“Should they have done more? Yes,” the pundit was quoted as saying on Sky Sports.
“The loans all make sense but I’d have liked to have seen a couple of sales – Carl Jenkinson, Mathieu Debuchy, for example.
“That money could have gone towards what for me would have been two of the biggest deals this window: new contracts for Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.
“The greatest statement Arsenal could have made would have been to retain those two players and I’m disappointed they haven’t.”
