‘Special player’ – Merson is blown away by this Arsenal youngster after his performance
Former Arsenal player Paul Merson has heaped praise on one of the youngsters who have been given a breakthrough by Unai Emery in the first team so far this season.
The Gunners appeared to be unlikely to spend during the summer for a while but Unai Emery ended the transfer window, having signed several players who moved to the Emirates stadium with a lot of potential.
One of Arsenal’s signings from the summer transfer window was Gabriel Martinelli, the cheapest of the new additions which Emery completed before the deadline in August.
The Brazilian youngster has moved to north London with the label of ‘one for the future’ but his displays so far are proving that he is quite a talent who could deliver even earlier than expected.
Martinelli scored for Arsenal yet again last Thursday as the team secured a comfortable 4-0 win over Standard Liege at home.
He then followed that up with a decent cameo against Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday.
After watching the South American starlet in action, former Gunner Paul Merson has tipped him for great things.
“You’ve got to remember the standard of the game, but what he did in the game was absolutely brilliant,” he told Soccer Saturday.
“You’ve just got to carry that on. He looks a special player for £6 million in this day and age. If he starts playing in that position behind people like Lacazette and Aubameyang, that will only help his game.”
