Defensive flaws have always been critical in recent barren seasons for Arsenal, but the resolve of the Gunner’s backline will be scrutinized more than usual after this fruitless 2009/10.

And as far as Arsenal’s defense is concerned, the goalkeeping department will surely be subject to several pointed fingers this summer.

So with several errors by Wenger’s goal-guards proving more costly than usual this season, Red London began a poll last week to seek the opinion of the Arsenal faithful on the team’s insecurity in goal.

The question was: If Wenger doesn’t sign a new keeper, who should the No. 1 be next season?

Wenger – considering his persistent faith in players – may be unlikely to sign a new goalkeeper this summer. Unlike the selective Manchester City, that leaves Arsenal to deal with their goalkeeping issues internally, and all choices – excluding Manuel Almunia – are fairly young and experienced.

So who would most people prefer to be Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper next season?

12% went with Manuel Almunia

8% chose Lukasz Fabianski

30% have their faith in Vito Mannone

50% would like to see Wojciech Szczesny

As it appears, the least preferred is the recently error-proned Fabiasnki while most would not mind seeing his younger countryman Szczesny between the sticks for Arsenal next term.
