New Arsenal manager Unai Emery has spoken on his controversial decision to not included new signing Bernd Leno in his starting eleven on Sunday.
Arsenal finished last season with the worst defensive record out of all of the top six sides in the Premier League last season.
That worrying record was partly due to the form of Petr Cech in goal and the arrival of Bernd Leno appeared to be a move to replace the former Chelsea goalkeeper.
However, to the surprise of many fans Leno was rather kept on the bench as Cech started in goal in the 2-0 defeat against Manchester City.
“We want the competition between the goalkeepers and also every player in the squad.” Emery said
“Despite the position, it is the same opportunity and the same chances for all the goalkeepers.
“We spoke also and Petr Cech, he is doing very well. Today as well, I think he played well also.
“He has this experience for continuing to defend our goal. Also, Leno is starting with us. He is working very well, he played well in pre-season too but he has to wait for his chance to arrive.”
