Arsenal’s new addition to the youth team has admitted that legal issues have prevented him from being able to feature for his new club this season.
After several months of speculation in the media and negotiations between Nigeria’s Diamond Academy and Arsenal, Kelechi Nwakali finally signed for the Gunners this summer.
However, the teenager who was in impressive form at last year’s U17 World Cup, will have to wait a while to play in an Arsenal shirt.
Nwakali was sent on loan to Dutch second division side MVV Maastricht before the transfer deadline on Wednesday.
And the midfielder has revealed he suffered the same fate as Takuma Asano in failing to receive a work permit which would have allowed him to play in England straight away.
“I’m happy about the loan deal to Maastricht since it would give me more playing time.” Nwakali said
“I have been doing well at training since I joined Arsenal, but it is unfortunate they could not secure my work permit, so going to Maastricht is a step in the right direction for me.
