The 26-year-old Croatian forward is unhappy that he has still to be offered improved terms at the Emirates.

His contract has just over 18 months to run and that has alerted Rafa Benitez, who desperately needs to strengthen his attacking options… Eduardo has started just three Premier League games this season despite fully recovering from the horror injury he picked up against Birmingham at the start of 2008…But he has been back since February and wants a more prominent role at Arsenal that Arsene Wenger cannot currently give him.

Eduardo will seek talks with Wenger to see if he features in his long-term plans and if the Arsenal boss is not convincing, Liverpool are ready to pounce.

Yes, that is the century’s most hilarious pre-January transfer rumor.

And it was well fabricated by the ever-reliable News of the World.

In a week where Arsenal talking points have been either scarce or too positive for the sensationalists to chew on, the best this notoriously uncredible British news source could do was forge a rumor which only helped Arsenal fans realize Eduardo is a highly-recognized player in Europe (more to compensate the loss of Van Persie) rather than inflame fears over the Croatian’s commitment to the club.

That will be to the major disappointment of News of the World.

This deed is nothing new from such a low-key news source but has only received attention not because of how many tricks it has played on the minds of naive Arsenal fans but how ludicrously unfitting it is to the current atmosphere around the Emirates.

Indeed the News of the World could have done much better timing. During doom and gloom times, stories like this attract a second read but this rumor has come at the worst of times in a period where harmony goes with all things Arsenal.

Sensational articles with no quotes is very typical of this particular tabloid who have now officially consigned to huge shame today after such a far-off attempt to start an absurd rumor.

And oh, the writer could not have hinted more about being a wishful Liverpool fan who knows and watches little about Arsenal.

Anyway, to be more factual about Eduardo, the 26-year-old was best at his job today – taking fair advantage of Croatia’s comfortable meeting with Liechtenstein to add two goals to his international tally for Croatia.

Arsenal’s ace was at the double in a 5-0 rout – scoring the third and fourth goals in a victory which merely compensated for the World Cup qualification failure of Slaven Bilić’s men.
