Vermaelen set for X-ray, Eduardo out for Sunday
There will be yet another nervy wait over injury news after Wednesday’s match with Aston Villa.
Arsenal’s latest man to go down is Thomas Vermaelen who hobbled off after the half-hour mark in the 0-0 draw at Villa Park.
The Belgian was replaced by Sol Campbell with a leg injury which is suspected to be severe.
Arsene Wenger revealed his ever-present defender was in bad condition as the Gunners prepared for their trip back to London and is set for a major diagnosis in the next few days.
“Thomas Vermaelen we don’t know, there will be an x-ray. He is on crutches and it is a fibula injury. We have to check tomorrow morning if it is just a nerve or a broken bone”
The manager revealed more injury woes as Eduardo – who limped off after 62 minutes – is now ruled out of the clash with Manchester United.
“Eduardo has a hamstring strain, a small one but for Sunday [Manchester United at home] he will be out.”
The doctors need to be investigated at arsenal.
For what?
I did fear this day would come though.
The only surprise about this is that it was him and not Gallas (who is older of course and looked like he would limp off injured in every match). Plus Wenger confirmed on Monday that Gallas was on the verge of injury.
I guess it’s that time of the year again.
Wats the injury count now:
Djourou, Van Persie, Diaby, Eduardo, Gibbs, Vermealen. An1 else i missed?
Lets not forget, Denilson, Bendtner, Walcott and Nasri who are just comming back.
All I have to say is Sol’s signing was a blessing in disguise! He is no Verm but covered well for him!
In Sol we trust.
GUYS, I need to have honest opinions on, Denilson! I think he is still giving away passes too often. Song, needs to get back ASAP!
Bendtner, will be back and better. I can feel it. Sol, could’ve scored in the last couple min but was blocked with Villa all bunched up in the box. We pushed Villa all the way once Bendtner and Nasri came on. All we need is, Diaby/Song back! Seriously, we should’ve had these 3pts in the bag today, but in the other hand Villa played well!
Last, I think that Rosicky miss that hit the post would’ve changed the game entirely in favor to us. I can’t believe it didn’t go in! ugh!
Get well soon, Verm!
Let’s go get Man U on Sunday!
Go Arsenal!
And the arsenal injury curse continues…………
now we have no fit experienced centre forward thanks arsene for being so stubborn we have given up the fa and carling cups ad now with all our injuries its probably goodbye to everything else. The failure to buy a goalie experienced mid fielder and central striker have cost us dear.
guys, i beg arsens wenger to buy one major striker even b4 the closa of transfer market. i also want to praise your strategy in the way u using those young starlet to win some major matches.pls. go for trophy……………
typical arsenal………2 players in 2 out…..i hate it. verma out we are 1 injury away from a crisis. we have 2 days to get a striker an a cb otherwise we are screwed. a broken bone mean a long time out……..i will be devastate if history repeats itself this year!!!! what about u rany?
juz now de match , our midfield is almost full controlled by villa midfield , we simply nid song back…clichy n sagna juz harassed by those 2 villa winger n agbanlahor.but if both 100percent fit, they wont b like this.Rosicky oso miss a golden chance when he hit the bar, simple strike wil do …1st half totally bully by them..but introduction of bendtner coz we stil on fight wif his good aerial ability..but i wonder y he din shot using his left foot when there is no more defender in front him n in a very good position….If Fabregas goal is hitting the net mayb the result will be different now..anyway sol is doing really well…keep it up Sol………..
i seriously need English lessons from u Fabre mate…………u are just too good!!!!!!
Verm Update from Arsenal.com
Thomas Vermaelen has NOT fractured his leg but he still may miss Arsenal’s Premier League clash with Manchester United on Sunday.
The Belgian limped off in the first half of the draw at Aston Villa on Wednesday night and afterwards manager Arsène Wenger feared the centre back might have broken a bone.
Scans on Thursday afternoon showed there was no break but the leg injury could still sideline Vermaelen in the short term.
On the upside, Wenger has added Emmanuel Eboue and Alex Song to his squad after they returned from the Africa Cup of Nations. Meanwhile Eduardo’s hamstring injury is “small, small, small”. The striker, who also limped off at Villa Park, is out for Sunday but could be back next weekend for the trip to Chelsea. Abou Diaby is also in line to return at Stamford Bridge.
“There is no fracture in Thomas’ leg but his injury still has to be assessed,” said Wenger. “There is still a good chance he will not play on Sunday.
“Eduardo has a small, small, small hamstring. He will be out for one week. He will not make Man United but he might make Chelsea.
“However Emmanuel Eboue and Alex Song have been in this morning. Eboue has been running outside. They are both in good shape. Tired but in good shape. Both of them are available for Sunday.
“Unfortunately Abou will not be back this weekend but he could be for Chelsea.”
Good stuff!
Both Fabre’s english and Verm’s news! 😛
The abgebra theory first highlighted by Randy,is again in full force, players in,players out. It’s like a revolving door.Anyway,i am somewhat comforted that the injuries to Vermaelen and Eduardo are not as serious as previously thought.Wish them both a speedy recovery. Also,it is great to welcome back both Eboue and Song, their return could not have been more timely. The return of Ramsey,Walcott and more recently,Bendtner and Nasri is also very good news. The latter two looked particularly on their game when they were introduced in the game yesterday. We definately dropped two vital points yesterday, but i am hopefull that we can rebound against Manu on Sunday, and then overcome Chelsea and Liverpool afterwards.
