It took Arsenal only five minutes to expose Manchester City’s soft centre as Alexis Sanchez caressed a fine pass behind Otamendi to Theo Walcott, who dispatched a cool finish past Claudio Bravo from close-range.

However, the last laugh belonged to Pep Guardiola’s side who fought back after the half-time break with goals from Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling to win 2-1.

And while Arsenal stumbled, their north London rivals Tottenham managed to defeat Burnley by the same scoreline at White Hart Lane.
