When the 27-year-old signed a new contract at the club just over a year ago, Van Persie proclaimed that “My heart is with Arsenal and I just can’t picture myself in a different shirt.”

On evidence of the clip below, the Dutchman was not saying so to flatter the Arsenal faithful (like some do).

In a short documentary about his days back home at Feyenoord, Van Persie’s affection for the No. 10 shirt and Arsenal when young was as clear as his footballing talent.

At the end of the video (1:58), he reveals that “I dream of playing for Arsenal or Barcelona”. This was way before he was scouted and snapped up by the Gunners in 2004.

With his immense ability, many can only imagine what Robin would be to the football world today had he been as fit as a butcher dog throughout his career so far.

And despite his unfortunate injury record, Van Persie has still managed some remarkable moments as a Gunner and remains the club’s all-time top scorer in the current squad with 73 goals in 140 starts – over a 50% scoring rate. Cesc Fabregas is second in that category with 48 goals.
